Crochet... Can it be Therapy?

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

Once again the lockdown has made me think about how important crochet is to me. As I have mentioned in a previous post I hurt my wrist and could not crochet for a few days. Apart from making me feel useless I also realised how important crochet is to my mental health.

I don't know the science behind it, but I feel that it is an act of mindfulness. As I (or anybody else) crochets or does any other arts or crafts, we focus on what we are doing and it is methodical. I find this methodicalness meditative, and therefore for me, relaxing and therapeutic.

Crocheting helped me during this time (and normally), to keep me sane, less anxious, and helps me keep emotionally even. It is not a new idea that crochet and other arts and crafts are helpful for your mental health.

Have you had similar experiences with craft?

Thanks for reading and I look forward to chatting with you again soon.
